Frequently Asked Questions
Can Ebbe Drains be installed in an existing shower?
This can be done, but only if the entire tiled shower floor and mortar bed are removed, all the way down to the waterproof liner. At that point, most tile setters would prefer to replace the entire shower floor. It can be dangerous to replace the mortar bed and shower floor tile without causing damage to the waterproofing. Before reinstalling the shower floor with the new Ebbe Square Drain Riser, a water test must be conducted to ensure the old waterproof liner is leak-free. Only after the demolition and leak test will you be able to determine whether it was effective. Hopefully, the fitting behind the tile will work with the Ebbe Square Drain after the deconstruction.
How should I clean the drains?
Avoid using cleansers that contain acid, bleach, or ammonia. Use a gentle detergent, like dish soap, and avoid using abrasive cleaning products. Make sure to wipe the entire surface dry after rinsing.
Standard shower drain fittings have female threads that Ebbe Square Drains are made to fit into. Are there any exclusions, or do they fit all drain brands?
There are a few exceptions, yes. Although they don't suit every drain fitting, they are compatible with more than 90% of the three-piece shower drains on the market. Without the need for an adapter, Ebbe Square Drains are compatible with all of the major brands of ABS and PVC three-piece shower drains available on the market. IPS Water-tite, Sioux Chief, Plastic Oddities, Jones Stevens (Plumbest), and Pasco are a few of these. There exist adapters for a few additional non-standard brands.
